Additional tests in Calais before VIIA Britanica start
The rail motorway service Calais – Le Boulou will not start on Tuesday 12th of January as initially planned.
Even though systems are finalized and rail operator is ready, migrants’ presence in Calais has raised a rail traffic safety issue.
Given the situation, we have been training in the past weeks in coordination with rail safety teams and police forces, as the police forces are the only one duly authorized to handle overcrowding. Although no major incident was reported during the tests, the exercises highlighted the need to double check with all actors the safety measures for rail traffic in Calais.
The Port Boulogne Calais and SNCF have made additional proposals to the French State in order to further reduce risks of incident.
The various actors of VIIA Britanica are joining forces to ensure a launching as soon as possible in optimal safety conditions for all.
