AFA in figures
SNCF Logistics has been operating the AFA (Autoroute Ferroviaire Alpine) in partnership with Trenitalia since 2003. The AFA rail motorway links the Aiton platform in France and the Orbassano platform in Italy, providing a perfectly safe means of crossing the Alps.

Perspectives
The extension of the AFA towards Lyon and the construction of a new platform capable of handling about 100,000 HGVs a year are currently being reviewed.Initially launched as an experimental service in 2003, the AFA service will soon be contracted out. A group comprising SNCF Logistics, Lorry Rail and OptiCapital made a bid to the French government at the end of 2010.

The Calais-Le Boulou rail motorway resumes service this Tuesday, 7th of February 2017. After traffic was suspended last July following an increase in semi-trailer damage, security measures in Calais have been increased.
