Friday 31st of July 2015, the Port of Barcelona and the Generalitat organized a press conference in Barcelona.

The topic of the day was the announcing of their willingness to launch over a four years horizon, the first intermodal trailer terminal inside the Port of Barcelona.

Were present: Sixte Cambra the president of the port of Barcelona, Santi Vila conseller of « territori y sostenibilitat » opf the Generalitat, Xavier Flores general director of «Infraestructures de Mobilitat Terrestre» of the Generalitat, and Thierry Le-Guilloux the president of VIIA, who was there as a guest.

According to Sixte Cambra, that strategic project could enable Catalonia and the Iberian Peninsula to be linked to the rest of Europe thanks to trailer transport lines, and to increase the Port of Barcelona competitiveness, thus positioned as a hub.

Currently, 2% of the freight from Spain to Europe are traveling through rail motorways.

According to Santi Vila, the project could increase that ratio and thus develop the Spanish freight and the Catalonia competitiveness, and to energize the freight exchanges between Europe and Spain, currently residuals.

He also talked about the environmental advantages of bringing some trucks back from the roads to the rails, allowing a decrease of the roads traffic, and as a result a collapse of gaz emissions by tens of thousands of tones every year.
